For its support of employees with disabilities, 3M received a 100 percent score on the 2018 Disability Equality Index®, making it one of the “DEI Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion.”
The Disability Equality Index is a joint initiative of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the US Business Leadership Network (USBLN) that enables businesses to objectively evaluate their disability inclusion practices and policies.
3M supports employees with disabilities and their families in a number of ways. Along with physical accommodations, 3M’s workforce has access to employee groups including the disAbility Awareness Network and the Autism and Mental Health Resource Group, flexible work arrangements, education and awareness opportunities. An employee assistance program offers individualized consultation on everything from maximizing effectiveness at work to navigating family and that relationship issues.
The company also partners with other organizations, such as National Industries for the Blind (NIB), to support employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Earlier this year, 3M became the first corporation to receive the NIB’s top national recognition, the Irwin Award.
