“We should joyously celebrate and respect the unique contributions of all people in America. Being inclusive speaks to our universal commitments, family, hard work and service. And it is particularly important to celebrate our Hispanic communities for Hispanic Heritage Month.

“I encourage everyone to take some time during Hispanic Heritage Month to learn more about one of the fastest growing groups of Americans, and to appreciate their many contributions around the globe. Today, 57.5 million people, or 18 percent, of the American population have origins that are Hispanic or Latino, terms that refer to people who identify themselves as Mexican, Mexican-American, Chicano, Puerto Rican, Cuban or Latin American. I take great pride in my Hispanic background and look forward to this month of acknowledgments and recognition of our heritage.

“I believe it is possible to retain and take pride in our individual and unique attributes while simultaneously valuing our similarities as contributing members of society. We can accomplish so much more together. That’s certainly the case at 3M, and I hope in your workplace or community, too.

“We’re kicking off this special month with some special news. 3M has just been named one of the Top 50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work for in the U.S. by LATINA Style, Inc. It’s an honor to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to hiring, retaining and promoting Latina professionals. It’s a tremendous testament that our ongoing efforts to emphasize diversity across our organization are bearing fruit.”
